The Argentine entertainment world is in mourning. Daniel Melingo, a historic musician who shone in iconic bands such as Los Abuelos de la Nada and Los Twist, has died at the age of 68. According to reports, he was found dead at his home, a fact that shocks colleagues and fans.

Melingo, who was also part of Los Auténticos Decadentes and Los Tres, was a reference point for Argentine rock and contemporary tango. His unique style, which fused punk with urban music, led him to be acclaimed both in Argentina and abroad, especially in France, where he lived for many years.

From an early age, Melingo showed his talent: at 15 he was already a permanent musician in Osvaldo Fresedo’s orchestra. Later, in the 80s, he joined the Argentine rock scene, integrating fundamental bands. His time with Los Abuelos de la Nada, alongside Miguel Abuelo, and with Los Twist, with whom he recorded hits like «Ritmo colocado,» marked an era.

But his great personal stamp came with his solo career, where he reinvented tango with a provocative and experimental approach. Albums like «Melingo: Tangos» and «Ufa» were key to bringing the genre to new generations.

The news of his death shook the showbiz world. Colleagues like Charly García and Lito Vitale have already expressed their grief on social media. So far, the causes of death have not been reported, but it is speculated that it could be due to an undisclosed health issue.

Daniel Melingo leaves a huge void in Argentine music. His legacy, however, will endure in every chord of his bandoneón and in every song he gave to the public.
