The 2026 World Cup final promises to be an unprecedented event. The clash between Argentina and Spain will not only decide the world champion but also mark a before and after in World Cup history: for the first time, there will be a halftime show with internationally renowned artists, in true Super Bowl style.
FIFA decided to transform the final into a comprehensive entertainment experience, with a pre-match ceremony, a halftime show, and a post-match presentation. The format takes its cue from the traditional Super Bowl show and aims to turn the World Cup final into a global celebration that combines sports, music, and a strong social message.
The main attraction of the day will be the debut of the first halftime show in a World Cup final. The presentation will be organized by FIFA together with Global Citizen, the international organization dedicated to promoting social and educational projects. For this first edition, the organization confirmed a lineup featuring some of the most important figures in international music.
The confirmed artists include Coldplay, Shakira, Rosalía, Dua Lipa, and Bad Bunny, among others. Additionally, characters from The Muppets and Sesame Street will participate, an addition designed to reinforce the family-friendly nature of the show and the educational message promoted by the organization.
Musical direction will be in the hands of Chris Martin, leader of Coldplay, who was tasked with coordinating the artists and designing the show. Although FIFA did not confirm that the singer will perform on stage, he will have a central role in the artistic production.
The implementation of the show forced a modification of one of the most traditional aspects of football: the length of the break. Instead of the usual 15 minutes, halftime will be extended to between 25 and 30 minutes. The musical show will last approximately 11 minutes, while the rest of the time will be used for setting up and dismantling the stage that will be installed on the field.
Once the presentation is over, the players will do a brief warm-up before the start of the second half to avoid injuries after a longer break than usual.
The halftime show will not be the only artistic event of the day. FIFA also confirmed a grand pre-match ceremony, which will take place during the 90 minutes before the start of the match between Argentina and Spain. Additionally, the organization announced that there will be a new artistic presentation once the final is over, although the artists and format of the show have not yet been revealed.
