«We all dreamed of bringing the cup home, but beyond the result, what we lived and felt during these 50 days we will never forget,» he stated. And he added: «Winning is beautiful, but representing this flag with dedication, commitment, and heart is what defines us.»
The forward also made a clear promise: «We will rise, learn, and move forward. We will continue fighting for our flag and dreaming of putting Argentina at the top.» And he closed with a resounding: «Pride and love. Go Argentina, always.»
But while the country processes the defeat, Álvarez’s future at the club level is a scandal. The forward had acknowledged during the World Cup that he wanted to change teams to «fulfill a dream,» which sparked interest from Barcelona. However, Atlético Madrid hit back hard.
Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, CEO of the Colchonero club, was blunt: «We did not accept an offer of 100 million, nor 150, nor 200.» The executive stated that the Argentine was «badly advised» and that he has already spoken with Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, to make it clear that Álvarez is not moving.
