The Argentine National Team is hours away from playing one of the most important matches of the United States, Canada, and Mexico 2026 World Cup. This Friday, the squad led by Lionel Scaloni held the last practice in Kansas City before the quarterfinal clash against Switzerland, which will be played on Saturday, July 11 at 10 p.m. (Argentine time) at Arrowhead Stadium.
The practice, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. in our country, was the final rehearsal before the decisive match. And as usual, Scaloni will hold a press conference at 10:15 p.m., where he could give hints about the starting lineup. Although the coach does not usually reveal the XI, journalists present detected two doubts that keep fans on edge: the right back and Messi’s partner in attack.
At right back, the battle is between Nahuel Molina and Gonzalo Montiel. Molina started in the last match against Egypt, but Montiel, hero of the 2022 Qatar final, is pushing for a spot. In attack, the dispute is between Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez. La Araña comes from a great game, but the Toro is the team’s top scorer. Who will accompany Messi?
The rest of the team seems defined: Emiliano Dibu Martínez in goal; Cristian Cuti Romero and Lisandro Martínez in central defense; Nicolás Tagliafico at left back; Rodrigo De Paul, Leandro Paredes, Enzo Fernández, and Alexis Mac Allister in midfield; and Lionel Messi as captain and offensive reference.
If Scaloni opts for Molina and Álvarez, he will repeat the same lineup that beat Egypt 3-2. But if he brings in Montiel and Lautaro, the scheme could vary slightly. The good news is that the coach has all 26 players available, with no injuries or suspensions.
The match against Switzerland will be broadcast by DSports, Paramount+, TyC Sports, Disney+ Premium, TV Pública, Flow, TyC Sports Play, and Telefe. The winner will face in the semifinals the winner of the match between Norway and England, which will be played on the same Saturday at 6 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Meanwhile, the rest of the quarterfinals already have France as a semifinalist after eliminating Morocco 2-0. Spain and Belgium will define this Friday the other qualifier. Argentina is one step away from entering the top four in the world. Will they achieve it?
