The Republican primary for Florida governor already has a candidate with the most clout: Byron Donalds. The representative for the 19th congressional district, who seeks to succeed Ron DeSantis, has been gathering support from party heavyweights, including President Donald Trump. The primaries are August 18 and the general election is November 3.
Trump was the first to show his support. In February 2025, five days before Donalds made his candidacy official, the president praised him on Truth Social: «Byron has a strong voice and would work with me to advance our America First agenda. He will fight to secure our border, stop migrant crime, strengthen our military, protect our veterans, restore our economic power, boost energy dominance, and defend the Second Amendment.» In May, Trump doubled down, calling him «a true winner.»
But he’s not the only one. Blaise Ingoglia, Florida’s chief financial officer, known as DeSantis’s «pitbull,» also jumped on board. On July 2, he issued a statement highlighting Donalds as the man capable of defeating the «radical Democrats» who, he says, want to «destroy» the Sunshine State. «Byron has a strong conservative track record in the U.S. House and the Florida Legislature, and his private sector experience qualifies him to address issues like affordability and the insurance market,» Ingoglia said, according to Donalds’s campaign website.
James Uthmeier, Florida’s attorney general, also joined the mix. On his X account, he wrote: «Byron is a Freedom Caucus conservative and a leader with experience in the Florida House. He is committed to continuing our fight to support law enforcement, protect the unborn, respect parents’ rights, defend the Second Amendment, and defeat the radical left. He has my endorsement for governor!» Donalds thanked him and promised to keep Florida a «national leader in conservative policies.»
The alarming detail is that DeSantis, the current governor, wants nothing to do with Donalds. In early 2025, when Trump gave the nod to the congressman, DeSantis quickly shut it down: «Trump hasn’t been part of any of the victories we’ve had here. We have a guy like Byron, who hasn’t been part of any of the victories we’ve had here against the left in recent years,» he said at a press conference, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Florida is a Republican stronghold. According to Neurelect, the party has 5,542,778 registered voters. It controls the governorship, the Secretary of State, the Attorney General’s office, and both chambers of the legislature. Three of the last four governors have been Republicans. The primary promises to be a mess, but Donalds already has the backing of those in charge.

Para mí este Byron Donalds es el único que puede limpiar el desastre que dejaron los zurdos de mierda en Florida. Trump lo banca y si DeSantis no lo quiere que se vaya a llorar a otro lado. Los patriotas estamos con él. Vamos carajo!
