Lugano is on fire! On Saturday, July 4, in the heart of the neighborhood, the second committee organized by the Socialist Workers’ Party (PTS) and Pan y Rosas took place, with the presence of deputy Myriam Bregman. The battle cry was clear: «We can’t go on like this.»
The meeting, which brought together teachers, students, unemployed workers, and neighbors from Villa 20, had as its central objective to debate how to put a brake on Javier Milei’s government, which «although facing enormous crises like Adorni’s, is sustained not only by Trump’s help but also by local sectors that pose as opponents but collaborate,» the organizers denounced.
Burning Issues
Participants exposed the critical situation in the neighborhood. The «BA Aprende» education reform, promoted by Jorge Macri, was one of the main targets. Teachers from the Lola Mora school denounced that the measure seeks «to precarize education workers, repress content, and erase the implementation of ESI.»
Another hot topic was the power outages and Edesur’s rate hikes. «The company provides terrible services while raising rates,» neighbors pointed out, who are already preparing a leafleting campaign to confront this situation.
Combat Resolutions
Among the committee’s resolutions, the following stand out:
- Solidarity campaign for the reinstatement of Mariano Sale, son of Osvaldo, a committee colleague, who suffers from employer persecution at Atucha.
- Discussion groups on the PTS programmatic manifesto, once a week.
- Leafleting against power outages and rate hikes, with a survey for Myriam’s proposal to build a movement for a working-class party.
- Coordination in CABA of sectors that want to fight.
- Rejection of BA Aprende and support for local schools.
- State of alert and mobilization against the eviction of FATE and against the closure of the factory by Madanes Quintanilla.
- Creation of a Culture Commission to organize an artistic day in August.
- Solidarity campaign with the women and people of Venezuela.
- Participation in the Plurinational Encounter of Women and Sexual Diversity, with a prior meeting at the Socialist cultural house Fuegos de Oktubre.
A Call to Organize
«The need to put a brake on Milei and his entire government in the streets, organizing ourselves as the Bolivian people showed us from below and overcoming the leaderships that betray the struggle,» was the spirit that ran through the committee. The organizers called for new people to join the assembly spaces to debate and intervene in the fights that arise in Lugano and throughout the city.
The next meeting is already being prepared, and the slogan is clear: not one step back, organize to win.
