Economy Minister Luis “Toto” Caputo once again defended the economic course of Javier Milei’s government tooth and nail, assuring that Argentina is experiencing a record moment in consumption, Gross Domestic Product, and exports. In an interview with Luis Majul on LN+, the official not only confirmed that inflation has resumed its downward path but also anticipated that the next 18 months will be the best of the libertarian administration.
“The data shows it: we are at record GDP, exports, consumption, and the country risk has fallen,” Caputo stated, in a clear attempt to refute opposition sectors and media operators who have been suggesting a supposed consumption crisis. According to the minister, aggregate indicators support the recovery of activity and economic growth, beyond specific changes in Argentines’ purchasing habits.
The head of the Treasury also referred to the disinflation process, which he said has consolidated since April. “As we continue with this fiscal and monetary orthodoxy, inflation will converge to international inflation. People can rest assured that inflation will continue to decline,” he assured, linking that trend to the fiscal and monetary discipline applied by the government.
But not everything was praise: Caputo also took aim at those who denounced an alleged exchange rate lag when the dollar was around 1,400 pesos and later sought to raise concern about the exchange rate movement to 1,500 pesos. “If at 1,400 you militantly claim an exchange rate lag, at 1,500 you cannot militantly express concern,” the minister stated, exposing the contradictions of critics of the libertarian economic program.
In parallel, the minister highlighted the normalization of the foreign exchange market and recalled that currently Argentines can buy dollars without the restrictions and obstacles that characterized previous administrations. “Today there is no currency clamp. Anyone who wants to buy dollars can do so without the hassles of the past,” he emphasized.
Caputo also vindicated the process of granting highway corridors to the private sector. The government is advancing on 9,000 kilometers of national highways through private investments, with tenders that, according to him, are being awarded even below the officially established reference prices.
Finally, the minister flatly rejected the possibility of a return to the Kirchnerist model and argued that the comparison between the two economic projects is evident to society. “Believing that, for the most part, people will return to the past is an underestimation of the citizenry,” he concluded, making it clear that the ruling party does not intend to take a single step back in its adjustment and reform plan.

Vamos Argentina carajo!
