Milei's Negative Image Explodes: Exceeds 56% and Rejection of His Administration Soars to 62%

Two new polls confirm the darkest scenario for the Casa Rosada: President Javier Milei's negative image reached 56.9% and rejection of his administration climbed to 62%. The economy, with rising unemployment and poverty, is the Achilles' heel of the ruling party ahead of 2027.

Imagen negativa de Milei explota: supera el 56% y rechazo a su gestión se dispara al 62%

The thermometer of public opinion gives no respite for Javier Milei. Two polls released this week —by Giacobbe & Asociados and the University of San Andrés— paint a bleak picture for the ruling party: the President’s negative image soared to 56.9%, the highest level since he took office, while rejection of his administration rose to 62%, one point higher than last month and a record for his term.

Although the government managed to halt the free fall it had been experiencing in the first months of the year, the numbers leave no room for optimism. According to Giacobbe, Milei’s positive image barely reached 37.5%, a slight improvement that is not enough to mask the negative trend. In the UdeSA measurement, approval of the administration fell to 34%, with a deepening gender gap: men support the President at 40%, while women do so at only 29%. But the most worrying data for the Casa Rosada is the decline among lower-income sectors, where approval plummeted to 29%.

The main problem, however, is the economy. 54.7% of respondents said the economy is worsening, and another 8.7% considered it stagnant. In total, 63.4% of Argentines have a negative assessment of the economic direction. Only 16.6% said the economy is improving and they already feel it in their pockets; another 19% see an improvement but have not yet perceived it in their daily lives. That core of optimists seems aligned with the official discourse, but without concrete translation into reality.

The problems that most concern the population are, in order, lack of work (38%), low wages (35%), and poverty (27%). Inflation, which for years topped the ranking of concerns, fell to seventh place with 17%. Corruption, meanwhile, tied with unemployment for first place (38%), driven by the scandal surrounding former Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni, whose financial revelations continue to add political costs for the government.

Looking ahead to 2027, the scenario is uncertain. The voting intention poll places Peronism first with 25%, followed by La Libertad Avanza with 24%. But the most striking data is the high level of indecision: 22% do not know who they will vote for and another 5% preferred not to answer. That universe of undecided voters is mainly composed of those who voted for Juan Schiaretti in 2023 (40% of them have not defined their vote), as well as a higher proportion of women (25%) and voters aged 44 to 59. These are the segments that will define the electoral battle.

With more than half of the electorate expressing a negative assessment of the government, Milei’s re-election chances seem to depend on a first-round victory. In a potential runoff, the accumulated rejection would be a difficult burden to overcome. The Casa Rosada knows this: the concern is real and the numbers do not lie.
