In a climate of strong political tension, the governor of Santa Fe, Maximiliano Pullaro, made his presence felt at Casa Rosada and signed a key agreement with Javier Milei’s government: the transfer of management of national route A012 to the province for the next 20 years. But the real backdrop of the meeting was something else: the struggle over the electoral reform promoted by La Libertad Avanza, with the elimination of the primaries as a priority objective.
Pullaro was received by Karina Milei herself, Secretary General of the Presidency, along with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, and the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo. The photo the Santa Fe governor took was no coincidence: seven official images released by the Presidency, more than half alongside the president’s sister. A clear sign that the political link is hotter than ever.
The agreement for Route A012 means that Santa Fe will assume financing for works, conservation, and maintenance of the road corridor, while the Nation retains ownership. «This is a huge step for Santa Fe’s production,» said Pullaro, and promised that repair work would start tomorrow. But what really matters is what comes next: the governor knows that Milei’s image is competitive in his province, according to polls, and he does not want to be left out of the game.
Behind the signing, the electoral reform is brewing. Karina Milei is obsessed with eliminating or suspending the national primaries in 2027, to complicate the Peronist internal and opposition unity. And Pullaro, who already met with Chief of Staff Diego Santilli on July 8, is a key piece to gather support in Congress. Santilli anticipated that he has already scheduled meetings with the governors of Catamarca and Santiago del Estero to replicate the format.
Also present at the event were about twenty national and provincial officials, including national deputies Romina Diez, Rocío Bonacci, Alejandro Bongiovanni, and Gisella Scaglia. The latter, president of the Provincias Unidas bloc, spoke out against the total elimination of the primaries: «The bill currently in Congress is the repeal, and I do not agree. I would make them optional. They should not be mandatory for the people, but the system could be rethought.»
Pullaro, for his part, plays his own game. He knows that support for the ruling party in Santa Fe can yield dividends, but also that any misstep can cost him dearly. The governor’s absence from the July 9 photo with Milei and other leaders caused noise, but now it seems to have been left behind. The leader of the violet party is closely monitoring the relationship with allied and dialoguing provinces to launch several key Executive projects in August, when the winter recess ends.
The lingering question is whether Pullaro will eventually yield to Karina Milei’s designs or maintain his critical stance. For now, the agreement for Route A012 is sealed, and the negotiations over the primaries are just beginning.

Para mí, Pullaro es el único con huevos en este país. Aliarse con Karina y Caputo es lo único sensato, ellos sí saben gobernar. Las PASO son un choreo de la casta, hay que borrarlas ya. Los zurdos lloran como siempre, pero esto huele a que les vamos a pasar por arriba. Viva la libertad carajo!
