Winter break is just around the corner, and as every year, Buenos Aires City is gearing up to welcome thousands of families with a cultural program that doesn’t let up. Palacio Libertad Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (formerly CCK) will be the epicenter of free activities, with over 500 events including theater, music, clown shows, and oral storytelling for kids, teens, and adults. Best of all: without paying a cent.
Between July 16 and the first days of August, the iconic cultural space opens its doors with a lineup that promises to keep both young and old entertained. But beware: not everything is just show up and sit down. For several performances, you need to reserve a spot or pick up tickets the same day, as seating capacity is limited. So it’s best to plan ahead and leave nothing to chance.
One of the plays already generating buzz is «Cuentos revueltos» (Mixed-Up Tales), a proposal that blends humor and music to put a twist on classic children’s story characters. Heroes, villains, and desperate mothers cross paths in everyday situations and zany adventures. Performances will be in the Sala Argentina of Palacio Libertad from July 16 to 22.
For clown lovers, «Pérez y Pérez» promises guaranteed laughs. Two eccentric characters get into endless trouble and invite the audience to be part of the show. It runs from July 22 to 26, also in Sala Argentina.
Renowned actress Ana María Picchio joins the lineup with an oral storytelling proposal that revives classic tales to share with the family. Her performances will be in the Salón de Honor of Palacio Libertad on various days during the winter break.
Another gem is «La valija de los sueños» (The Suitcase of Dreams), a play that combines theater, imagination, and mystery around a suitcase that holds fantastical worlds. Ideal for curious kids, it can be seen in Auditorio 413 on weekends.
And for the little ones, Martín Garibaldi presents «Garibaldi clown,» a gestural and participatory show that will take place in the Pequeño Teatro of Palacio Libertad for much of the break.
The full lineup includes much more: concerts, workshops, and interactive activities that make Palacio Libertad the foolproof plan for those who want quality culture without spending a dime. That said, it’s advisable to check the official schedule before going to find out times, availability, and how to get tickets.
Winter break is the perfect excuse to introduce kids to theater and culture. With this free offering, there’s no excuse to stay home. Palacio Libertad once again solidifies itself as the must-visit meeting point for families looking for cool plans without breaking the piggy bank.
