The 13th International Book Fair of Comodoro Rivadavia, to be held from July 30 to August 9 at the Cultural Center and ten other venues in the city, will have a guest that promises to ignite controversy: Ediciones IPS, the Marxist publishing house of the Socialist Workers’ Party (PTS) within the Left Front, will be present with its traditional stand.
Under the motto «More books, more free – 50 years Memory, Truth and Justice,» the Fair will offer over 500 free activities. Ediciones IPS, with 26 years of experience and more than 100 published titles, will arrive with a catalog that includes collections such as History, Ecology, Science, Women, Marxist Debates, Classics of Marxism and Selected Works of Leon Trotsky, Biographies and memoirs, among others.
In a context of economic crisis due to the policies of the Milei and Torres government, the publisher will seek to spread its socialist ideas among youth, women, and workers. They will offer their catalog at affordable prices and with promotions, in an attempt to capitalize on social discontent.
One of the highlights will be the presentation of the book «New Technologies at the Limits of Capital» by Paula Bach, on August 5 at 6 p.m. at CEPTur. The author will be accompanied by Héctor Márquez, a CONICET researcher and professor at UNPSJB. The book analyzes from a Marxist perspective the impact of artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology, and criticizes visions that predict the end of work.
According to the publisher, the work warns about the «fetishism of commodities and technology,» recalling that technology is a creation of the working class and that social organization can define its use. A proposal that will undoubtedly generate debate at an event that celebrates memory and justice.
In addition, Ediciones IPS will present other new releases such as «Marxism and Dialectics» by Juan Dal Maso, «The Kid from the Shipyards. Biography of a Trotskyist Worker» and «Let’s All Gather. A Brief History of Sexual Diversity and Class Struggle» by Jorge Remacha.
The presence of this publisher at a fair that commemorates 50 years of Memory, Truth and Justice is no coincidence. In times of crisis, Marxist debates, both classic and contemporary, become relevant. Ediciones IPS bets that a sector of young people, workers, and intellectuals seeks to «turn everything around» and change the reality of misery offered by the capitalist system.
