¡Bombazo! Nueva Zelanda moja primero ante Egipto en Vancouver: gol de cabeza de Surman

At BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, New Zealand and Egypt are fighting for their lives in Group G of the 2026 World Cup. Both need a first win to avoid falling behind, and the start was a wake-up call: the Oceanians struck first.

In the opening minutes, a well-taken corner found the head of Finn Surman. The New Zealand defender, standing at 1.90 meters, beat his Egyptian marker and drove the ball into the near post. A great goal, 1-0 for the All Whites.

Egypt felt the blow and reacted. Mohamed Salah began to move more across the front line, looking to be the focal point of the response. The African side gained ground and possession but lacked precision in the final third. Mahmoud Marmoush and company tried, but the New Zealand defense held firm.

Egypt’s pressure was reflected in their positioning: the center-backs were left one-on-one with Chris Wood, while the rest of the team set up in the opponent’s half. However, clear chances did not come. A dangerous free kick from Salah near the area was the closest they came to an equalizer; the Liverpool forward’s shot grazed the right post.

New Zealand, for their part, relied on counterattacks and set pieces. Captain Chris Wood had already had a clear chance early on, but the Egyptian goalkeeper cut out the cross just as he was about to strike.

The match became intense, with hard tackles. Tim Payne and Emam Ashour clashed, leaving the Egyptian on the ground; the referee stopped play to check on him.

Egypt, coached by Hossam Hassan, fielded an attacking lineup: Shobeir, Fattouh, Hamdi, Yasser, Hany, Marwan, Mohannad, Emam, Ziko, Marmoush, and Salah. New Zealand, under Darren Bazeley, started with Max Crocombe, Tim Payne, Michael Boxall, Joe Bell, Marko Stamenic, Chris Wood, Sarpreet Singh, Eli Just, Liberato Cacace, Finn Surman, and Callum McCowatt.

Group G is wide open: Belgium and Iran drew 0-0 in the other match, leaving everyone on two points. This game could determine who stays in the race for the round of 16.

The second half promises excitement. Egypt will come out with everything in search of an equalizer, while New Zealand will try to hold on and strike again. Can Salah turn the game around? Or will the All Whites pull off the upset? Minute-by-minute coverage continues.
