Charlie Sweeps Corrientes: Over 60,000 Viewers Crown It Box Office Queen

In the midst of the 2026 World Cup, the mega production starring Agustín 'Rada' Aristarán leads Buenos Aires theater box office. While the Argentine national team plays and the lineup reshuffles, 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' remains unbeatable.

Charlie arrasa en Corrientes: más de 60 mil espectadores ya la consagraron como la reina de la taquilla

June and July are months of frenzy in Buenos Aires theaters. It happens every year. But this 2026, the World Cup being played in Mexico, the United States, and Canada has added an extra twist to the season. The commercial lineup, packed with musical comedies and TV stars, has already felt the impact: several shows have canceled their second performance next Saturday because the match against Jordan kicks off at 11 p.m. If the Argentine national team advances, Corrientes Avenue will have to decide whether to raise the curtain or not.

But beyond the forecasts, the numbers from Aadet, the chamber that brings together producers and venue owners, confirm something that was already in the air: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an unstoppable phenomenon. The mega production at the Gran Rex, with Agustín “Rada” Aristarán as the central figure, just swept through 10 performances last week and has already drawn over 60,000 spectators. It leads both in audience size and revenue. After the success of Matilda, School of Rock, and The Little Mermaid, the same producers have hit the mark again.

In second place is Sottovoce, the comedy by Fernán Mirás, Carla Peterson, Adrián Suar, and Lorena Vega, directed by Mariano Pensotti. This production pushed Billy Elliot to third place, another super production playing at the Teatro Ópera, right across from the Gran Rex and a block from the Nacional, where Sottovoce is staged. The area of Corrientes after the Obelisk is having its revenge.

Fourth and fifth place go to two titles that already know what it’s like to be on top: Hairspray, the musical with Damián Betular, Alejandra Radano, and Sofía Morandi, at the Coliseo; and Desde el jardín, the play by Guillermo Francella alongside Andrea Frigerio, Martín Seefeld, and Daniel Miglioranza, at the Metropolitan.

From sixth to ninth place, all come from last season: Rocky, with Nicolás Vázquez and Dai Fernández, at the Lola Membrives; El jefe del jefe, with Diego Peretti and Federico D’Elía, at La Plaza; Una navidad de mierda, with Verónica Llinás, Alejo García Pintos, Anita Gutiérrez, and Tomás Fonzi, at the Premier; and La cena de los tontos, starring Laurita Fernández, Gustavo Bermúdez, and Martín Bossi at the Astral.

Rounding out the top ten, Annie, the musical comedy with Lizy Tagliani, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, and Julieta Nair Calvo, at the Broadway.

But there’s more. Outside of those that do multiple weekly performances, three different titles maintain occupancy above 80 percent: Bernarda de la casa, a clown show based on Lorca, by the Compañía de Señoras, at the Abasto; Prima facie, with Julieta Zylbelberg, at El Picadero; and Feliz día, by the Sutottos (Andrés Caminos and Gadiel Sztryk), at the Pasaje Santos Discépolo.

Corrientes Street is on fire. While the World Cup makes producers nervous, Charlie is consolidating as the big winner of the season. Will it keep up the pace when the national team plays decisive matches? For now, the chocolate factory keeps churning out tickets.
