Transporte en el AMBA para la final del Mundial: colectivos se frenan, trenes y subtes siguen

This Sunday at 4 PM, Argentina defines the 2026 World Cup against Spain, and the AMBA prepares for an announced traffic chaos. While fans gear up to cheer for the Scaloneta, public transport will undergo drastic modifications: 180 bus lines will stop running during the match, while trains and subways will maintain their regular Sunday service.

From the DOTA Group, which brings together the main bus companies, they confirmed that the units will operate on a Sunday schedule until the start of the match and will resume two and a half hours later, until the end of the game. DOTA director Marcelo Pasciuto explained that the measure was adopted «for the safety of workers and passengers.» He also noted that, once the match ends, «traffic is usually affected by road closures and fan celebrations.»

Pasciuto also recalled the destruction that occurred after the semifinal victory against England: «There were buses with broken windows, mirrors, and damage to air conditioning units, because many people climbed onto the roofs to celebrate.»

In this context, the lines that would stop providing service after 4 PM are: 7, 8, 9, 20, 21, 24, 25, 28, 31, 32, 44, 50, 51, 56, 57, 60, 71, 74, 76, 78, 79, 80, 84, 87, 91, 100, 101, 106, 107, 108, 115, 117, 127, 128, 130, 134, 135, 146, 150, 158, 161, 164, 177, 188, 216 (includes 166 and 236), 263, 271, 283, 299, 370, 373, 384, 385, 388, 403, 405, 410, 429, 503, 514, and 523.

Meanwhile, from the Chamber of Passenger Bus Transport (CEAP) they indicated that changes in frequencies could also occur due to the decrease in passengers circulating on the streets. They also stressed that some bus companies could advance changes in their services before the start of the match, since that decision will depend on each company and its delegates.

On the opposite side, the Sarmiento, San Martín, Roca, Mitre, and Belgrano Sur train lines will maintain the Sunday schedule on all their branches, as confirmed by Trenes Argentinos. In the case of the subway, Emova indicated that it is expected to operate normally during the match. «If there is a large influx of users on the network, the situation will be evaluated permanently and jointly with the Police and City authorities, prioritizing operational safety conditions,» they stated.

The security operation for the final promises to be monumental. While buses retreat to avoid damage, trains and subways will be the only option for those who want to move without a car. The question is whether capacity will be enough for the thousands of fans who will take to the streets to celebrate or watch the match on giant screens.

DOTA’s decision to suspend services is not minor: 180 affected lines mean that millions of users will have to seek alternatives or stay home. Companies justify the measure on safety, but passengers wonder if it is not an excuse to reduce costs on a low-demand day. The truth is that, after the incidents of the semifinal, no one wants the destruction to be repeated.

Meanwhile, the City and National Government coordinate a special operation to guarantee order. Traffic cuts are expected in key areas such as the Obelisco, 9 de Julio, and the surroundings of the stadiums where screens are installed. The official recommendation is to avoid the center and use public transport, but with buses stopped, the option is reduced to trains and subways.

On Sunday, Argentina comes to a standstill. And the AMBA, with its transport running at half capacity, will be the thermometer of a party that promises to be epic, but also highlights the fissures of a system that is not fully adapting to mass events.
