EE.UU. declara a Argentina más segura que España, Francia y Reino Unido

Argentina has received another favorable signal from abroad: the United States Department of State kept the country at the lowest level of its international travel advisories, Level 1, which recommends that its citizens only take normal precautions when visiting the country. The update, published on July 10, confirmed Argentina in the safest category of a four-level scale and also removed risk indicators related to civil unrest, health, and crime, along with the specific alert for the city of Rosario, which previously was listed as an area requiring greater caution.

The classification places the country in a more favorable position than destinations usually presented as models of security and stability, including Spain and France. Both European countries remain at Level 2, which recommends US travelers «exercise increased caution.» In the case of Spain, Washington warns of possible incidents related to terrorism and civil unrest, mentioning as potential targets transportation hubs, tourist sites, restaurants, shopping centers, and sporting or cultural events. It also notes that demonstrations are frequent and can occur over political or economic issues.

France received the same classification due to risks related to terrorism and protests. The US warning also mentions the frequency of phone thefts and pickpocketing at airports, stations, public transport, and tourist attractions. The difference also extends to Brazil, which remains at Level 2 due to crime rates and kidnapping risks. The State Department directly advises against visiting certain border areas, informal neighborhoods (favelas), and some peripheral cities of Brasília at night.

While consular alerts do not constitute a general ranking of each nation’s security, they do determine how much caution Washington recommends to its citizens. Under that criterion, traveling to Argentina is currently considered to require less caution than traveling to Spain, France, the United Kingdom, or Brazil, among others. The result is positive news for the government of Javier Milei, who since December 2023 has made restoring order and fighting crime among his top priorities. The rating is a favorable international signal for the country’s image and its positioning as a tourist destination.

In a global context where insecurity and terrorism strike European powers, Argentina emerges as a more reliable destination. The removal of the alert on Rosario, once considered a hotspot of narco-violence, is a direct nod to the security policies of the libertarian government. Meanwhile, in Spain and France, tourists must contend with the fear of attacks and constant theft. Milei’s management appears to be bearing fruit in terms of international perception, although critics warn that local crime statistics remain a pending issue. For now, the US stamp of approval is a strong argument for those seeking a safe destination in South America.
