Buenos Aires was the scene of a new international solidarity mobilization. After a gathering in front of the Bolivian embassy, hundreds of protesters moved to the Obelisk to express their rejection of the judicial persecution faced in France by railway leader Annase Kazib, a figure of the organization Revolution Permanente.
Kazib will be tried on June 25 in the Paris court, accused of “apology for terrorism” for his firm support of the Palestinian cause. The same legal figure that, according to the organizers, has been used since 2023 to criminalize any show of solidarity with Gaza and the Palestinian people, not only in France but also in the United States, Great Britain, and other Western powers.
The event was opened by Iara Salerno, a healthcare worker and PTS activist who participated in the last mission of the Global Sumud Flotilla. Salerno harshly criticized the hypocrisy of European governments that persecute those who support Palestine while looking the other way when Israel illegally detained the flotilla members. “The case of Anasse shows everything imperialism can do if allowed to advance,” she warned, and called for continued mobilization alongside the Palestinian people because “their triumph would be a triumph for all the peoples of the world.”
Then Juan Carlos Giordano, from Izquierda Socialista, took the floor, expressing solidarity with Kazib’s situation and highlighting that the four parties of the Frente de Izquierda Unidad participated in the last mission of the Global Flotilla. He closed his speech by calling for “a free Palestine” and offering his party’s support.
Pablo Giachello, a militant of the Partido Obrero and also a member of the last flotilla, extended his party’s solidarity to Kazib and denounced his persecution by Zionism. He also mentioned that the United States is suffering a defeat in Iran that shows that “imperialism can be defeated.” Giachello called the peace agreement in Gaza “a fraud” and assured that the complicity of European states with Zionism is total, although the factor of solidarity with Palestine causes crises in their governments. He ended by calling for the acquittal of Kazib and of Vanina Biasi and the other prosecuted comrades.
The event closed with Nicolás del Caño, deputy of the Frente de Izquierda and PTS activist. Del Caño linked the persecution of Kazib with that suffered by the entire pro-Palestinian movement worldwide for raising their voices against Israel’s actions in Gaza and exposing its main accomplices: the United States and the European imperialist powers. He also denounced the persecutions in Argentina against Vanina Biasi, Alejandro Bodart, and Federico Puy for showing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. “The strategic defeat of the United States in Iran and the struggle of the Bolivian people should encourage oppressed peoples around the world,” he stated, and demanded the acquittal of Kazib, highlighting the importance of these internationalist acts and solidarity among peoples.
