A savage attack in downtown Villa Carlos Paz has left an entire community in shock. Santiago Herrero, a young man just 15 years old, was assaulted from behind by a group of violent individuals who struck him with a bottle on the head, causing a skull fracture. The incident occurred at the intersection of Avenida Cárcano and Sargento Cabral, minutes after the Independence Day celebrations.
“It wasn’t a fight. They grabbed him from behind. A boy started running, hit him, Santiago fell to the ground, and then the others kept kicking him. He couldn’t even defend himself,” said the mother of the minor, María Laura Tamagnone, heartbroken, in an interview with a local media outlet. The woman stated that her son was attacked without a word, and that the aggressors continued to beat him even when he was already lying on the asphalt.
According to initial reconstructions, Herrero was hit with a bottle that fractured his skull. “They hit him with a glass bottle on the parietal area. They fractured his skull and then continued to beat him when he was already on the ground,” the mother detailed. One of the friends accompanying the teenager also suffered severe blows, although he managed to survive.
After the beating, the young man was urgently transferred to the municipal hospital Gumersindo Sayago, but his delicate condition required immediate referral to the Hospital de Urgencias in the capital of Córdoba. There, doctors confirmed a severe head trauma. “The doctor explained that the depressed bone caused a fissure in his brain. He had several blood clots. They removed the largest one and decompressed his brain to reposition the bone,” Tamagnone recounted.
The latest medical report indicates that Herrero has improved slightly, although his prognosis remains guarded. “He moved his hands and feet,” the mother said with relief, but warned that his condition is still delicate. The clinical response has brought some hope among his loved ones, who have not left his side.
The complaint was filed with prosecutor Jorgelina Gómez, from the courts of Villa Carlos Paz, who is investigating what happened during the July judicial recess. Security cameras in the corridor have already provided key material to identify those responsible. So far, no arrests have been made, but judicial sources confirmed that some of the aggressors have already been identified.
“Everyone knows this group of violent individuals, and there are several children threatened in Carlos Paz. I’m afraid of what might happen next,” Tamagnone concluded, visibly distressed. Meanwhile, the community demands justice and clarity regarding an attack that left a teenager on the brink of death due to the cowardly actions of a gang that operates with impunity on the city’s streets.
