Just 22 days ago, Mercedes Errapan had cried out for help at the Women and Family Police Station in Junín. She reported her own compadre, Sebastián Bonafe, for filming her 7-year-old daughter while she was showering. She requested a restraining order. But justice did not arrive in time. This Wednesday, when the victim’s partner left for work, Bonafe jumped over the wall of the house, killed her, and took the girl.
The escape was worthy of a horror movie. At 5:07 a.m., Jonathan Videla, Errapan’s partner, left for work. Four minutes later, security cameras captured Bonafe climbing the wall wearing a black hooded jacket. At 7:57 a.m., he walked out holding the girl’s hand. By 10:34 a.m., he was on a motorcycle on Route 188 in Obligado, Rojas district. Then, he hitchhiked. A teacher picked them up and dropped them off in downtown Pergamino at 12:28 p.m. At 12:33 p.m., they entered a kiosk. By then, Mercedes’ body was already lying face down with a gunshot wound.
The Sofia alert was activated like a missile. National Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva celebrated the coordination of the forces on her social media. But what really chilled the blood was the letter Bonafe left at his home, seized during an emergency raid. There he wrote, in shaky handwriting: «Kill Mechi and Jona and leave Junín, go towards the little one. I know there are cameras. Go by land and then go to La Pampa. With grandma’s cell phone I studied and made the map.» And he added: «I got tired of being good, of being a son of God. I swear I never filmed the girl.»
In another letter, he said goodbye to his mother: «I’m leaving Junín, where I was born. You taught me to be a man of value. But this is killing me alive.» The plan was macabre, but it failed. When police saw him at Alsina and Becerra, he tried to escape into a cane field and threatened the minor with a knife. «Finally, the officers managed to convince him to stand down,» police sources said. The girl was released safe and sound.
Bonafe was no amateur. He had open cases for gender violence, injuries, and threats. In 2024, his ex-partner reported him for pushing her. In 2022, a sister-in-law accused him of assaults. And last Friday, the Federal Police raided his home for grooming, the sexual harassment of minors online. Prosecutor Fernanda Sánchez, in charge of the case, awaits the autopsy to confirm whether Errapan died from a gunshot or otherwise. The alleged femicide will be questioned in the coming hours. Meanwhile, the question hangs in the air: how many more reports would it take to stop a monster?

Para mí este Bonafe es la caripela del patriarcado, un producto podrido del sistema que mercantiliza a las minas. Los medios cómplices lo pintan como loco suelto, pero esto huele a machismo estructural. Justicia popular ya, carajo.
