Maradona's Nurse Points Finger at Cosachov: 'Is That Why You Call Me?'

Cinthia Córdoba, the nurse who attended Diego Maradona in his final days, testified in the trial that psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov ignored a serious psychiatric episode and that she was forbidden from contacting doctors.

Enfermera de Maradona apuntó contra Cosachov: "¿Para eso me llamás?"

In a tense day at the trial for Diego Maradona’s death, nurse Cinthia Córdoba dropped a bombshell against the accused psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov. According to her testimony, when she tried to alert about a psychiatric crisis of the 10, the professional’s response was chilling: ‘Is that why you call me?’

Córdoba, who spent six days caring for the star at the Tigre country club, detailed that on November 14, 2020, Maradona ‘got agitated out of nowhere, didn’t recognize anyone, said he was being persecuted.’ Faced with this situation, she desperately called Cosachov, but the doctor not only gave no instructions but also belittled her.

The nurse also revealed that the medical directives were a handwritten note stuck on the fridge, without signatures or endorsements. ‘Everything was reported on nursing sheets, what medication had to be given to the patient, which was handwritten and unsigned on the fridge,’ she stated.

Maradona’s clinical condition worsened day by day. Córdoba said that on November 23, two days before his death, the 10 ‘was in denial, lying in bed, not wanting to eat.’ Despite alerting the doctors, she never received a response. ‘I made him tea, checked to see if he took anything, but he was in denial,’ she recounted.

But the most serious part was the order she received after the psychiatric episode: ‘As a result, they wrote to all of us not to contact the treating doctors anymore, that if we communicated with any doctor we would be dismissed.’ An instruction that, according to the witness, left the nursing staff unable to act in emergencies.

Córdoba also reported that Maradona did not have a specific diet for his recovery from the subdural hematoma and alcohol withdrawal. And that when she detected that he had a severely swollen leg, she reported it via WhatsApp to the medical group, but ‘I got no response.’

The nurse, who is the ex-partner of the nursing coordinator Mariano Perroni, also accused, said she learned of Diego’s death through him. Perroni, who was in the dock, heard his ex confirm that she went to pick him up to go to the house because no one was answering.

The cross-examination by Perroni’s defense was limited by the court to avoid ‘further breaking the family bond,’ as the president said ironically. Perroni had already stated that the charge of simple homicide with eventual intent destroyed his family.

Córdoba’s testimony revealed absolute chaos in Maradona’s medical care: lack of medical records, uncontrolled medication, contradictory orders, and a psychiatrist who, according to the witness, did nothing in the face of a crisis that could have been fatal. The trial continues and promises more revelations.
