Adorni renuncia al directorio de YPF tras escándalo: no cobrará los 95 millones mensuales

Manuel Adorni submitted his resignation from the board of YPF S.A. this Wednesday, amid a political and judicial storm in which he is the protagonist. The former Chief of Cabinet, under investigation for alleged illicit enrichment, left his position as titular director representing the State’s Class A shares. His departure was formalized with a letter addressed to the company’s president, Horacio Marín.

«I am writing to you to inform you, and through you the Board of Directors of YPF S.A., of my resignation as Titular Director for Class A,» Adorni wrote in the letter. The resignation comes days after Javier Milei himself declared him «out» of the oil company in a television interview.

The opposition had demanded that the former official step aside to avoid receiving the million-dollar board fees: 95 million pesos per month. Adorni never collected that salary because he was a national official, but once out of the Cabinet, he was eligible to pocket that amount. Opposition pressure was key to his eventual resignation.

Official sources confirmed that the new Chief of Cabinet, Diego Santilli, will take Adorni’s place on the board for Class A shares. Santilli was sworn in on Tuesday before Milei and his predecessor, in an event that included a triple hug and a playful pinch from the President to Adorni. «Oxygenation» was the word repeated in officialist offices regarding Santilli’s arrival.

The YPF board has 11 titular positions and six alternates. Those still representing Class D shares are former Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos and his deputy, Lisandro Catalán. Additionally, there are representatives from the provinces.

Despite Adorni’s legal situation, Milei stated that he trusts his innocence. The President and the former official embraced after Santilli’s swearing-in. The investigation for illicit enrichment continues, and Adorni’s ordeal has caused growing weariness within the ruling party ranks for over three months.

Adorni was formally appointed to the board on January 30, 2026. His resignation is a direct consequence of his resignation from the Chief of Cabinet position, which occurred last Saturday. Santilli thus becomes the fourth Chief of Cabinet in the libertarian administration in two and a half years, after Nicolás Posse, Guillermo Francos, and Adorni himself.

The director position entailed significant responsibilities: administration, supervision, and strategic decision-making for the company on behalf of shareholders. With his resignation, Adorni closes another chapter in his career, while the justice system advances its investigation into his asset growth since entering public administration.
