Minutes after Manuel Adorni made his resignation as Chief of Cabinet official, Patricia Bullrich, head of the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) Senate caucus, came out with a message that left no doubt: trust and ethics are pillars of the change promoted by President Javier Milei. «Trust and ethics are two fundamental elements to deepen the change that the President, the people, and the entire country are building,» Bullrich wrote on her X account, in a veiled jab at the now-former official.
Bullrich’s message did not go unnoticed: it was reposted by Milei himself, in a show of support for her stance. However, sources close to the ruling party revealed that the order from the Milei brothers was to defend Adorni at all costs, contrasting with Bullrich’s attitude, who was the only figure in the official lineup to demand clarifications about the alleged irregularities in the former Chief of Cabinet’s assets.
Adorni resigned after months of being in the spotlight due to a judicial investigation for alleged illicit enrichment. Since March, the Federal Justice has been investigating inconsistencies in the evolution of his assets and the explanations he publicly provided to justify them. These questions led to requests for interpellation and censure motions promoted by much of the opposition in Congress.
Last week, Adorni had dodged requests for interpellation in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, but the projects in committees were headed for a ruling, as allied blocs withdrew their support. The pressure became unsustainable.
In his resignation letter, published on social media, Adorni said goodbye with a self-pitying tone: «I am a simple citizen who one day wanted to collaborate with a project that is putting Argentina at the top of the world, an ordinary citizen, with a life that is neither more nor less than what I always had.» He thanked Milei, his work teams, and each of the Cabinet ministers for their «affection, support, and pushing day by day.» «Thanks also to all those who supported me, inside and outside the government. Thanks to those who, without knowing me, knew how to read the truth amidst so many lies. I close this chapter. I leave calm and serene, but above all, with a clear conscience and firm in my convictions,» he concluded.
Adorni’s departure leaves open wounds in the ruling party. While Bullrich sets the tone with a message of ethics and trust, President Milei tries to contain the damage. The lingering question is whether this internal rift will be the beginning of the end of libertarian cohesion.
