PRO has fully entered the electoral dance for next year, but the one who has already moved his pieces is Jorge Macri. The Buenos Aires head of government and party president in the city made it clear he wants to keep ruling: he dreams of «four more years of management» to make a leap in mobility and noise, according to his ministers. Meanwhile, the yellow force is splitting in two: some want to merge with the ruling party, while others prefer to maintain identity with their own candidate in a primary.
The cousin of former President Mauricio Macri has already warned that PRO will not compete alone in the next elections. In an interview, Jorge Macri explained that the force must «be part of an alternative» and outlined three options: fielding its own candidate to compete in a primary, going solo, or directly joining another space. But he did not rule out any: «Having a Macri face and being part of a broader front are not incompatible,» he fired.
On a personal level, the head of government already has his sights set on 2027. «I want four more years to advance government plans,» they repeat at Uspallata. His obsession: electric mobility and reducing noise. «Make a big qualitative leap,» he promises. But those around him downplay the hype: «We are not thinking about elections, there is a long way to go, we are focused on public order, infrastructure, and mobility.»
The alliance dilemma remains unanswered. In the city, Jorge Macri avoids burning bridges with libertarians, although he acknowledged that Manuel Adorni is a «noise» that «hinders management.» But he does not dare to confront head-on, as other national PRO figures do. «I am used to competing,» he limited himself to saying when asked if he is worried about facing La Libertad Avanza at the polls.
Internal tension exploded over the Adorni case: this Tuesday, the opposition in the Chamber of Deputies was going to session to interpellate him, but PRO negotiated with libertarians to defuse the debate. «The show is over,» celebrated the bloc of Cristian Ritondo. But the calm was short-lived: Fernando de Andreis, the party’s secretary general, crossed paths with Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and Patricia Bullrich for supporting a candidate in Salta who beat Mauricio Macri’s protégé. «For now, no» chance of rapprochement with them, warned national PRO.
Meanwhile, Jorge Macri navigates turbulent waters without definitions. «There is a long way to go before taking a stance,» they repeat in the Buenos Aires government. But the electoral clock is already ticking, and PRO is betting its future in the city and the country. Will they ally with libertarians or go alone to the fight? For now, the head of government prefers not to get wet, but his movements speak for themselves.
