This Saturday, Manuel Adorni submitted his resignation as Chief of Cabinet of Ministers. He did so through a letter addressed to President Javier Milei, in which he made an extensive defense of his time in government and rejected one by one the allegations and rumors that, he claimed, circulated during his tenure.
The former official stated that in recent months he was the target of a systematic smear campaign based on false accusations and media operations aimed at damaging both his public image and his private life. “The lies that have been told were of the most varied kind,” he said.
In that context, he listed a long series of rumors that, he claimed, never had any basis: alleged non-existent trips, lavish expenses, irregular hiring, business dealings with state-owned companies, mansions, luxury cars, cryptocurrency farms, nepotism, and even the existence of a supposed “USB drive full of dollars.”
He also rejected rumors about costly cosmetic surgeries, companies in Uruguay, and alleged payments to avoid journalistic publications. “They have even suggested that I paid millions so they wouldn’t talk about me,” he wrote.
Adorni stated that there was never a single piece of evidence that compromised his conduct while in public office. “They have treated me as a criminal and corrupt without a single act of corruption on my record,” he said.
Furthermore, he denounced that some rumors even suggested that he remained in office because he supposedly blackmailed the President and the Secretary General of the Presidency. “They went so far as to say that my continued tenure was because I had blackmailed you and the Secretary General of the Presidency,” he stated.
The former official considered that the attacks transcended the political sphere and reached intimate aspects of his family life. “They confused the public with the private and intimate. They invented lovers, children, siblings, divorces, and even a different biological father than the real one,” he noted.
For Adorni, this situation ultimately became the main reason for his departure from the government. “The protection of my loved ones as a priority is precisely what I am reaffirming today,” he indicated.
In another part, he criticized the treatment he received from sectors of the press and asserted that there was a permanent attempt to destroy his reputation. “I regret that the harassment, the lies, and the constant attempt by the media to ruin my honorability have sought to cause us so much harm,” he expressed.
Despite this, he assured that he leaves public office with the peace of mind of having acted correctly and of having fulfilled all the commitments made. “Today I will go to sleep in absolute peace with myself and with what I have done for the country,” concluded the former Chief of Cabinet.
