Vacaciones de invierno 2026: una familia tipo necesita hasta 7 millones de pesos para irse una semana

Winter holidays 2026 arrive in a context where Argentine families continue to adjust expenses and prioritize price over other factors. Although inquiries for travel have begun to grow ahead of the school break, the final decision increasingly depends on the available budget. In this scenario, domestic destinations gain ground over international options, though even within the country costs reach millions.

A survey conducted by the consulting firm Focus Market estimated how much a typical family—two adults and two children aged 10 and 12—must spend to enjoy seven nights of vacation in different tourist destinations. The difference between traveling by plane, bus, or choosing nearby getaways largely shapes consumption decisions for this winter.

As every year, Bariloche remains the most chosen destination for those seeking snow and winter activities. However, it is also among the most expensive. The report indicated that a package for four people, with seven nights of accommodation in a three-star hotel with breakfast and airfare, reaches 5,242,004 pesos, an 11% increase from last winter. The bus alternative reduces the cost, though it still represents a significant investment: the same trip costs 3,992,207 pesos, 57% more than in 2025. In practical terms, traveling by plane means paying 31.3% more than by land.

The budget does not end upon arrival. Those who want to enjoy Cerro Catedral must add extra expenses. Pedestrian entry costs 90,000 pesos per person, while the daily ski pass amounts to 160,000 pesos. Added to this are snow equipment rental—between 68,500 and 94,000 pesos for one or two days—and lessons, starting at 306,000 pesos for two hours.

Among the domestic destinations surveyed, Salta offers a significant difference in final cost. Traveling by plane requires a budget of 4,977,730 pesos for a family of four, of which more than 3.7 million correspond to airfare. In contrast, opting for the bus reduces the total cost to 2,080,577 pesos, less than half of the air package. Accommodation maintains a similar value in both cases, so the difference is explained almost exclusively by transportation costs.

Despite the appreciation of the dollar and other regional currencies, Brazil remains the preferred international destination for privileged Argentines amid the crisis. Traveling to Rio de Janeiro for seven nights costs 7,316,904 pesos for a typical family, representing a 48% year-on-year increase. Airfare alone exceeds 4.9 million, while accommodation is around 690,000 pesos. Santiago de Chile also ranks among the most chosen options, especially for those combining tourism with shopping. The total budget amounts to 6,043,795 pesos, driven mainly by flight costs.

From Focus Market, they noted that the appreciation of the dollar and the Brazilian real made international travel less competitive and strengthened the relative appeal of local destinations. Faced with the high cost of traditional trips, nearby getaways appear as the most economical alternative for many families. Destinations like Mercedes, San Antonio de Areco, and Lobos allow organizing a trip with a private car for values close to 210,000 or 230,000 pesos, including fuel, tolls, and accommodation. According to the report, this type of proximity tourism continues to grow because it significantly reduces transportation costs without sacrificing recreational experiences.

The director of Focus Market, Damián Di Pace, stated that this winter the consumer shows a much more «selective» behavior than in previous seasons. According to the analysis, last-minute bookings, increased search for promotions, and a preference for domestic destinations prevail, where the price-experience ratio is more favorable than for international trips.

The combination of wages that continue to lose purchasing power and the rising cost of tourism forces many families to recalculate their vacations. While some opt to reduce days of stay or change the means of transport, others directly replace long trips with weekend getaways. The result is a tourism map where the budget has become the main decision factor. This winter, more than ever, the chosen destination will depend on how much the pocket can bear.
