Diez propuestas culturales para infancias: ballet, ópera y música clásica en vacaciones de invierno

In Buenos Aires, the winter break lineup explodes with a commercial and alternative offering of shows for all audiences and budgets. Far from the prejudice that ballet and classical music are boring or elitist, there are proposals that prove that performing arts have no age. Here, a selection of ten must-sees.

Lyrical Tales at the Colón
On Tuesday, Lyrical Tales: Did You Know the Sea Has a Heart? premieres on the main stage of the Teatro Colón, a one-act musical with arias by Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Delibes, and Offenbach. The story follows Dana (Josefina Scaglione), a woman who recalls her first childhood getting lost. Students from the Colón Higher Institute of Art, the Academic Orchestra, and the Children’s Choir participate, with Lucas Segovia as a guest. Performances through July 30 at 4 PM, tickets from $16,000 to $51,000.

Comunidad, by the National Folk Ballet
Emiliano Dionisi created Comunidad for the National Folk Ballet, a work about a gray city where everyone is the same until someone dares to break the mold. It returns to the Palacio Libertad (Sarmiento 151) on July 28 at 3 PM and 6 PM, with free admission.

The Nutcracker in La Plata
Emanuel Abruzzo adapts the Petipa-Tchaikovsky classic for the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, with projections and a focus on new generations. Performances from July 26, free with online reservation.

Seres que bailan at the San Martín
Laura Falcoff presents Seres que bailan, a choreographic journey from the minuet to romantic and whimsical characters, with music by Haydn, Mozart, and Satie. At the Cunill Cabanellas Hall (Corrientes 1530), from July 23 to August 2 at 4 PM, tickets at $15,000.

The Nutcracker at the Teatro Avenida
Teacher Alba Serra adapts the ballet with students from her studio and guest dancers from the Colón, Romina García Vázquez and Antonio Leborans Pons. Performances on July 18, 25, and August 8, tickets from $12,000 to $42,000.

Filiberto Orchestra with Dúo Karma
Under the direction of Ezequiel Silbertein, the Juan de Dios Filiberto National Orchestra of Argentine Music performs a songbook by Dúo Karma in symphonic format. A poetic journey with Cuban and Latin American rhythms. On July 24 and 31 at 6 PM at the Palacio Libertad, free admission.

Sleeping Beauty at Konex
The cycle Vamos al ballet presents an updated version of Sleeping Beauty by Emanuel Abruzzo, with the Buenos Aires Ballet Juvenil. With jazz, live noises, and a language that connects with 21st-century children. Performances Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 11 AM at Sarmiento 3131, tickets from $25,000.

Firmado: El Gaucho Cascarrabias
