This Saturday, June 20, at the socialist house Rebelión, the first committee for a party of the new working class was formed, promoted by the Center of Professionals for Human Rights (CeProDH). The meeting brought together about twenty activists, including Alejandrina Barry, a human rights advocate and former Buenos Aires legislator for the PTS-Frente de Izquierda, as well as teachers, non-teaching workers, lawyers, and law students. The slogan was clear: transform the growing sympathy toward Myriam Bregman and leftist ideas into an organized force capable of intervening in reality and confronting Javier Milei’s austerity policies.
The debate was opened by Leila, a law student and activist with CeProDH and the PTS, who pointed to a phenomenon beginning to show up in polls. She recounted her experience in the mobilizations against the Omnibus Law and how many people who joined the struggle, finding no alternative in traditional political spaces, began to see Myriam Bregman as a different reference. «The committees can become a space to share experiences, debate, and organize those seeking to become active subjects of social transformation,» she proposed.
One of the central themes was the situation in Bolivia. Alejandrina Barry, who had just returned from a humanitarian mission in La Paz, denounced the media blackout on the repression by Luis Arce’s government against peasants and workers. «That silence seeks to hide both the repression and the magnitude of popular resistance,» she said. She highlighted the role of the chola women, who continue to lead the struggle despite threats from reactionary groups. «This process is enormously important for all of Latin America because it calls into question the plans of the US government. There is an imperialist offensive in our continent, and in Bolivia that is beginning to be questioned. Thinking about Bolivia means thinking that we want to build a party to act in reality,» she argued.
Also present were Liliana Mazzea, a lawyer in crimes against humanity trials and defender of political prisoners; Matías Aufieri, a CeProDH lawyer and advisor to the Frente de Izquierda benches, victim of Patricia Bullrich’s repression; Julieta Bandilari, former vice president of the Buenos Aires Bar Association and founder of the Argentine Support Platform for the Prosecution of Crimes of the Spanish Civil War; and Juan José Moreno, from the Labor Lawyers Association.
Another strong debate was introduced by Tito, a PST activist in the 1970s, who spoke about the «new working class.» They discussed how labor precarity, fragmentation, and loss of union organization affect millions of workers, especially those working through digital platforms, many of whom do not see themselves as workers but as entrepreneurs. Ana, a political scientist, and Evelin, a law student, contributed that what remains fundamental is the place workers occupy in production, and that a political tool must be built that represents both historically organized sectors and the precarized.
The meeting was intergenerational: from students just starting their careers to activists with experience since the 1970s. All agreed that the political independence of the left from employer governments is the key to the growth of sympathy toward Myriam Bregman. «The committees can be the embryo of a party of the new working class,» was heard among those present.
The next meeting is already on the agenda. Meanwhile, the left prepares to fight in the streets and at the ballot box against Milei’s austerity.

Para mí esto huele a que al fin la izquierda se despierta. El CeProDH con Alejandrina Barry es lo único que puede frenar a los fachos de Milei. Basta de tibios, a construir el partido de la nueva clase trabajadora y darle con todo al ajuste. ¡Vamos con Bregman a enterrarlos!
