The government of Javier Milei has a new Secretary of Communication and Press. He is Fabián Fernández, who until now served as manager of Press and Media at YPF. The announcement was made by Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni through his X account, accompanied by a photo at the Casa Rosada.
«Welcome Fabián Fernández, new Secretary of Communication and Press of the National Government. Great challenge ahead. My best wishes in this new stage. End,» wrote Adorni, in a message that left no doubt about his support.
Fernández will be the number two of the new presidential spokesperson, Adrián Ravier, who already replaced Adorni in that role. Adorni’s departure from the spokesperson role occurred amid a judicial investigation for alleged illicit enrichment, although Milei maintained his unconditional support.
The new secretary is 35 years old, born and raised in Lanús, and has a long career in political communication. He was part of PRO teams from 2015 to 2023, and since then he has been head of Press at YPF, whose CEO is Horacio Marín, a man with great affinity for Milei.
His appointment is part of the changes defined by President Milei and Adorni last Friday, in a nearly six-hour meeting at the Quinta de Olivos. The Presidential Spokesperson’s account simultaneously announced Fernández’s arrival as part of a «new stage of management.»
«In a new stage of management marked by the consolidation of the economic program and the beginning of a cycle of sustained growth for Argentina, the President of the Nation has decided to appoint Fabián Fernández as Secretary of Communication and Press,» the official statement begins.
In the text, he was presented as a «specialist in public communication, institutional relations and press,» who for more than a decade was part of and accompanied different management teams, and since 2023 has «successfully» led the press area of YPF.
Fernández is a national broadcaster graduated from the Escuela Terciaria de Estudios Radiofónicos (ETER). Before entering politics, he worked with business and union entities such as the Unión Industrial de Avellaneda and FAUPPA.
«From the Secretary of Communication and Press, he will work in coordination with the Presidential Spokesperson, Adrián Ravier, to support and communicate the challenges of this new stage of Argentina,» specified the National Government.
The CEO of YPF, Horacio Marín, echoed the appointment on X: «Thank you, Mr. President, for choosing one of my best collaborators to carry out this task. Fabián is a great professional, committed and very responsible. Congratulations on this new stage.»
Fernández’s arrival occurs in a context of strong controversy: the investigation for alleged illicit enrichment that tarnishes Adorni, and the Government’s need to show communication aligned with the «transformation process.» Will it be enough to calm the waters?
