This Friday, rumors of the possible departure of Manuel Adorni, who remains at the helm of the Chief of Cabinet, grew. The government arrived promising to end the caste and may have to let go of an official questioned for his million-dollar expenses, travel, and properties.
Javier Milei assured that he trusts in his official’s innocence, but also warned that if the Justice system proved his guilt, he would remove him from office «with a kick.» If Adorni’s departure is confirmed, it would mean a hard blow to the government, which is going through a strong political crisis due to the official’s scandals, social discontent over the adjustment, and a real economy that worsens with the fall in consumption and the deterioration of living conditions for the working class.
According to media reports, among the names that have begun to be mentioned to occupy the Chief of Cabinet are Interior Minister Diego Santilli; Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno; Minister of Human Capital Sandra Pettovello; and YPF President Horacio Marín. The rumors of a possible replacement circulated both among leaders close to the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and in the circle of presidential advisor Santiago Caputo. But everyone agrees that the decision will depend exclusively on the President.
Adorni faces two judicial cases. He is under investigation for illicit enrichment, related to his asset growth in public office, and another for alleged incompatible negotiations with public office, due to his ties with Marcelo Grandio, a subordinate in charge of running a program on public TV.
This week the official «bought time» after multiple maneuvers by La Libertad Avanza and allies from the PRO, the UCR, and part of Peronism to postpone the interpellation and possible censure motion in Congress. National deputy Myriam Bregman of the PTS FITU stated this week in the National Congress that what is appropriate is to vote on the censure motion project: «Adorni must go. Adorni was in this chamber, backed by the President and the Cabinet, and he lied. He lied.» «That’s why we bring this censure motion. We want it to be voted on today, and voted on by name so that Adorni leaves. And we hope that, along with him, all those who are sinking the working people leave,» added the deputy.
The political crisis deepens while the real economy offers no respite: the fiscal adjustment hits the popular sectors, consumption plummets, and living conditions deteriorate. In this context, Adorni’s continuity seems increasingly unsustainable. Milei must decide whether to support him or sacrifice him to try to calm the waters. Para mí que están re podridos los zurdos con Adorni porque es un capo total. Esto huele a opereta de siempre, inventan cualquier verso de enriquecimiento para voltearlo. Yo creo que Milei lo cuida porque sabe que es un fenómeno, y si se va es para algo mejor. Viva la libertad carajo!
