The libertarian dream is fading. The latest measurement of the Political Satisfaction and Public Opinion Survey (ESPOP) from the University of San Andrés confirmed that the wear and tear on Javier Milei’s government continues unabated. According to the survey, barely 34% approve of the President’s management, while a resounding 62% disapprove, representing a one-point increase in rejection compared to June. Numbers that send chills down the spine at Balcarce 50.
The most worrying data for the Casa Rosada is the historical comparison: at the same point in their respective terms, Mauricio Macri had a 45% approval rating, while Alberto Fernández had 21%. Milei thus falls in an intermediate position, but increasingly closer to the floor that the former Peronist president once had. The trend is clear: support is crumbling.
The report highlights a striking fact: satisfaction with the «general direction of things» in the country stands at 30%, a figure that surpasses those recorded by Macri in the same period (26%) and Fernández (10%). However, this better general perception does not translate into greater support for the presidential figure. Macri, in fact, had a positive image of 45%, ten points higher than what Milei currently shows. This suggests that the social mood regarding the country’s direction is not necessarily tied to the personal evaluation of the President, something that compromises his ability to politically capitalize on any future improvement in indicators.
One of the most consistent data points throughout the study is the difference in approval by gender. While 40% of men approve of Milei’s management, among women that number drops to 29%, an 11-percentage-point gap that has remained stable since the start of his term. Women, historically more affected by austerity, are turning their backs on the libertarian.
There are also marked differences by socioeconomic level: the upper-middle class is the segment that most approves of the government (42%), while the lower-middle class is the one that most rejects it (67%). The social divide deepens: those with the least are the ones who suffer the most and who most repudiate the President.
Presidential approval is absolutely crossed by the ideological divide. Among those who identify with the right, support climbs to 73%, and among the center-right it reaches 65%. At the other extreme, all of Myriam Bregman’s voters (100%) disapprove of the management, as do 98% of Sergio Massa’s voters and 96% of those who identify with the left. The country is split down the middle, and Milei only convinces his own.
With these numbers, the President will have to row against the current if he wants to reverse the trend. For now, support is crumbling and the honeymoon seems to be over for good.
