Macri Endorses Santilli as Chief of Staff: 'I Trust He Will Help Restore Calm'

Macri bendice a Santilli como jefe de Gabinete: "Confío en que ayude a recuperar la tranquilidad"

In a gesture that marks the explicit support of the PRO leader for Javier Milei’s new cabinet, Mauricio Macri came out to fully back the appointment of Diego Santilli as Chief of Staff. The former president not only congratulated the former party figure but also revealed that he spoke with him before his meeting with the president at the Quinta de Olivos.

«Today I spoke with Diego Santilli prior to his meeting with the President. He told me he would be appointed as the new Chief of Staff. I celebrate that decision,» Macri wrote on his X account, in a message that left no doubt about his unconditional support.

But he did not stop there. The former president went further and said he trusts that Santilli will «help strengthen change, restore some of the calm the country needs, and allow economic reforms to advance as soon as possible.» A statement that sounds like pressure on the new official, who will have to deal with an economy on the brink of collapse and a government that promises a fierce adjustment.

The appointment of Santilli, who replaces Manuel Adorni, was not only celebrated by Macri. Cristian Ritondo, another heavyweight of the PRO, also joined in the praise. «Without a doubt, excellent news for Argentines. We have walked together for 35 years, and I know firsthand how hard you work and the heart you put into everything. I love you, I admire you, and it makes me happy to see you take on this challenge,» the national deputy emphasized on his social media.

Milei’s move to appoint a PRO leader to a key position is no coincidence. Amid internal tensions in the ruling coalition, the president seeks to send signals of unity and add political experience to a cabinet that until now had been dominated by technical figures and outsiders. Santilli, with a long career in public management, arrives with the mission of organizing the Casa Rosada and providing governability to a project that promises to be as disruptive as it is controversial.

However, Macri’s support does not come for free. The former president, who remains the undisputed leader of the PRO, knows that Santilli owes him his position and that his loyalty will be tested in the coming months. Meanwhile, the opposition is already sharpening its teeth and promises to give the new Chief of Staff no respite. The lingering question is: will Santilli be able to live up to expectations, or will he be another cog in the machinery of power that devours the weak?
