President Javier Milei once again puffed out his chest this Tuesday during a talk at the Faro Foundation, where he celebrated GDP growth in the first quarter and declared: “Today the lies have fallen.” The president did not spare adjectives for the economic data, which he described as a true “economic miracle” that disproves the doomsayers of failure.
The event, under the motto “Ideas for a Free Society,” brought together the cream of the libertarian universe. Present were the two new signings for official communication: spokesman Adrián Ravier and Media Secretary Fabián Fernández, who shared a table with Milei himself. Also in attendance were figures such as Agustín Laje, educational guru Martín Krause, and a handful of top-level officials: Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni, Presidential Secretary Karina Milei, and Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzenegger, among others.
The Faro Foundation, known for raising funds for the libertarian campaign, served as the stage for Milei to rally his troops. “This growth is no coincidence; it is the result of the freedom policies we have been implementing,” the President reportedly said, according to sources present. The GDP data, which showed a rebound in the first three months of the year, was the focus of his speech: “Today the lies of those who said we would fail have fallen,” he quipped, amid applause.
The presence of Ravier and Fernández did not go unnoticed. Both arrive to bolster the Government’s communication at a key moment, when the opposition is trying to wear down the administration. Ravier, a low-profile economist close to the inner circle, joins as spokesman, while Fernández will take the reins of the Media Secretariat, with the mission of countering the “bad press” that the ruling party denounces.
The atmosphere in the hall was one of restrained euphoria. Attendees, mostly young activists and sympathetic businessmen, chanted libertarian slogans. Milei, true to his style, held nothing back: “This is just the beginning. We are going to make Argentina the promised land of liberalism,” he promised.
However, not everything is rosy. Analysts consulted warn that GDP growth could be temporary and that enormous challenges remain, such as inflation and poverty. But at the Casa Rosada, they prefer to see the glass as half full: “This is the first step of the recovery,” they assure.
The day ended with a toast and the feeling that Milei-ism is more alive than ever. Meanwhile, the opposition seeks explanations for the rebound, but the President has already claimed victory. Will it be enough to sustain the illusion? Time will tell, but for now, the party is libertarian.
