Political shake-up in Patagonia! This Saturday, more than 150 people gathered in the first committees promoted by Myriam Bregman in Río Negro. With simultaneous meetings in Viedma, Bariloche, Cipolletti and Fiske Menuco, the call to organize a left-wing alternative against Javier Milei’s government set the province ablaze.
In Bariloche, the movement was overwhelming: more than 60 participants filled the meeting. Teachers, students, retirees, precarious workers, artists and professionals sat down to discuss how to move from online anger to concrete action. Most striking: a legion of independents with no prior activist experience joined the debate. Among the resolutions, they voted to create thematic commissions, a campaign on housing, land and environment, and preparations for the Plurinational Meeting of Women and Dissidents in Córdoba.
In Fiske Menuco (General Roca), more than 40 people gathered at the UNCo Law School. Students from the three local universities, organized retirees and activists from various backgrounds converged there. The main concern: how to reach young people who distrust politics and how to build solid foundations for a left-wing project. They resolved to promote an inter-university festival in defense of public education, outreach campaigns and international solidarity actions with the Bolivian people.
In Cipolletti, the UnTER local was the scene of a generational debate. More than 30 people, including young students, teachers and workers, discussed how to confront the advance of libertarian ideas and the prevailing skepticism. Myriam Bregman’s figure emerged as a beacon capable of inspiring those who had drifted away from politics. They approved organizing work commissions, a festival for public education and meetings to study the Programmatic Manifesto.
In Viedma, 20 people met, with representation from health workers, teachers, students, retirees, state employees and even relatives of Ramiro Dina. The debate addressed the national situation, the crisis in Bolivia and the need to build an alternative that does not repeat the failures of progressivism. They voted to promote solidarity with Bolivia, support the fight for justice for Ramiro Dina, back the summoned health workers and carry out leafleting at universities.
Beyond local differences, the committees shared the same spirit: fierce criticism of current leadership, eagerness to discuss a long-term left-wing perspective and willingness to take action. In some cities, even members of other left-wing currents joined the exchange. It was reaffirmed that the committees are open to all who want to build a great party of the new working class, while the debate forums of the Left Front move forward.
The assessment is clear: the committees in Río Negro opened a path to organize those seeking a left-wing political alternative, with the protagonism of workers, students, retirees and sectors fighting for the environment, indigenous communities, women and dissidents. This is just the beginning!
