The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued a yellow alert that puts two provinces on edge for this Friday, June 26. According to the official agency, southwestern Neuquén and Tierra del Fuego (including the Malvinas Islands) will be the areas most affected by weather phenomena that could disrupt daily activities.
In Neuquén, the yellow alert for snow forecasts accumulations between 10 and 30 centimeters, with the possibility of exceeding these values in specific spots. Additionally, rain or sleet cannot be ruled out in lower areas. The SMN warns that this alert level implies «weather phenomena capable of causing damage and risk of temporary disruption of daily activities.»
On the other hand, in Tierra del Fuego and the South Atlantic Islands, the alert is for intense northwest winds, with speeds between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour and gusts that could reach 90 km/h. A dangerous combination that demands maximum caution.
In response to the snow alert, the SMN recommends avoiding going outside; if unavoidable, only travel in vehicles prepared for ice and snow. It also asks to check roofs, gutters, and drains, ventilate rooms to prevent carbon monoxide buildup, and keep an emergency kit handy with a flashlight, blankets, first aid kit, and medications.
For those in wind alert areas, the instructions are clear: do not go out, secure objects that could blow away, stay away from doors and windows, and do not take shelter under awnings, signs, trees, or poles. When driving, take extreme precautions.
In Buenos Aires City, Friday will start cool, with a low of 5°C and a high of 14°C. There will be fog during the morning and midday, and partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Winds will not exceed 12 km/h. Saturday is expected to be similar, with no precipitation in sight.
In Buenos Aires Province, temperatures will range between 2°C and 14°C, with morning fog and partial cloudiness the rest of the day. Winds will also be light, up to 12 km/h, until Saturday night.
The rest of the country will also feel the cold: Córdoba will have a high of 17°C and a low of 5°C; Tucumán, 15°C and 6°C; Santa Fe, 17°C and 5°C; Entre Ríos, 16°C and 5°C; Jujuy, 17°C and 4°C; Salta, 15°C and 4°C; Misiones, 18°C and 5°C; La Rioja, 15°C and 2°C; Santiago del Estero, 20°C and 5°C; San Luis, 15°C and 4°C; San Juan, 15°C and 3°C; Mendoza, 14°C and 3°C; Río Negro, 13°C and 2°C; Chubut, 13°C and 3°C; and Santa Cruz, 6°C and 1°C.
The SMN insists on not letting your guard down: the polar cold and adverse phenomena can complicate the day. Better to stay home and follow the recommendations.
