The National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued yellow alerts for this Monday, June 22, in eight provinces of the country. Strong storms, intense winds, and Zonda wind are expected, which could create dangerous conditions. According to the agency, the yellow level implies «meteorological phenomena with potential for damage and risk of momentary interruption of daily activities.»
The storm alert applies to Misiones, northwestern Corrientes, and eastern Formosa. Locally strong storms with heavy rainfall, occasional hail, and intense gusts are forecast. Accumulated precipitation could range between 30 and 60 millimeters, with higher localized values.
On the other hand, the wind alert affects northwestern La Rioja, western Catamarca, western Tucumán, western Salta, and western Jujuy. In the high mountain area, westerly winds of 50 to 70 km/h are expected, with gusts that could exceed 90 km/h, reducing visibility.
Additionally, a yellow alert for Zonda wind is in effect for central Salta and central Jujuy. Winds of 30 to 45 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h are forecast, causing a sudden rise in temperature and low relative humidity.
The SMN recommends, during storms, avoid going out, do not take out trash, and keep drains clear. If water enters the home, unplug appliances. Outdoors, seek shelter in buildings or closed vehicles.
For strong winds, they suggest securing objects that could be blown away, staying away from doors and windows, and not taking shelter under awnings, signs, trees, or poles. When driving, exercise extreme caution.
In case of Zonda wind, stay in safe places, close doors and windows to avoid dust and hot air, secure objects, drive carefully, stay hydrated, protect eyes and respiratory tract, and avoid lighting fires.
