In a move that promises to shake up the Argentine automotive market, Toyota presented two new electrified SUVs that mark a before and after in its local offering. The Japanese automaker, a pioneer in hybrid technology since 2010 with the Prius, now adds the plug-in hybrid RAV4 (PHEV) and the bZ4X, its first 100% electric vehicle (EV).
The announcement was made on June 5, World Environment Day, and was attended by Gustavo Salinas, president of Toyota Argentina, who highlighted: «Presenting these new models has a very special relevance. It means completing and materializing all the electrification technology that Toyota develops.»
The sixth generation of the Toyota RAV4, the world’s best-selling SUV in 2025, arrives with a comprehensive overhaul. It will be available in three versions: Limited (HEV), XSE (PHEV), and the unprecedented GR-Sport (PHEV). All feature AWD all-wheel drive and four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and EV. Its design adopts the Hammerhead front end, with C-shaped LED headlights and a larger grille that reinforces its adventurous profile.
The big news is plug-in hybrid technology. The PHEV variant combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with three electric motors, developing 329 hp. Its 22.7 kWh battery allows up to 142 kilometers in electric mode and exceeds 1,000 kilometers of combined range. Charging from 20% to 80% can be completed in approximately 1.5 hours with three-phase installation or 2 hours with single-phase.
The conventional hybrid version uses the fifth generation of Toyota’s hybrid system, with a 2.5-liter engine and two motor-generators reaching 239 hp. Inside, the RAV4 incorporates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch multimedia screen, plus the Arene platform to manage multimedia and safety functions. Depending on the version, it includes a JBL audio system with 11 speakers, panoramic roof, and ventilated and heated seats.
Another novelty is the GR-Sport variant, inspired by Toyota Gazoo Racing, with specific suspension and steering, improvements in structural rigidity, and exclusive design details.
The second launch is the bZ4X, an SUV that marks Toyota’s official entry into pure electric vehicles in Argentina. Built on the e-TNGA platform, it measures 4,690 mm in length and offers a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. Its design also adopts the Hammerhead concept, with a front light bar and LED headlights. The mechanics include two electric motors (one per axle) powered by a 73.1 kWh battery, delivering 343 hp and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, with a range of up to 480 kilometers.
Toyota highlighted improvements over the 2022 global version in range, power, charging times, and battery thermal management. A full charge with a 22 kW wall charger can be done in about 3.3 hours. Equipment includes a 14-inch central screen, elevated digital instrument cluster, dual wireless charger, and Toyota Safety Sense assists.
With these launches, Toyota completes its offering of electrified technologies in Argentina, adding plug-in hybrids and pure electrics to conventional hybrids (Corolla, Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross). A move that will undoubtedly put pressure on the competition and set the course for sustainable mobility in the country.
